What we do

Help maintain and improve Pittville and Pittville Park

  • Run a campaign to restore Pittville Gates and improve the immediate surroundings

  • Litter pick and provide gardening support to borough council staff – 12 times a year

  • Inspect the park and estate with borough council staff and the two ward councillors (who are also co-opted members of our committee) - 8 times a year

  • Meet borough council staff, ward councillors and Park Watch co-ordinator – 4 times a year

  • Inform members and the public about issues relating to public safety, environmental protection, vandalism and theft through Park Watch

  • Comment and feedback on behalf of Friends and the public on specific projects being managed by the borough council

  • Participate in working groups set up by the borough council


Encourage greater community involvement in the park and estate through

  • Publishing a printed newsletter for distribution in Pittville, parts of St. Paul's and Fairview in March and September, and, in addition, to Friends in December and June

  • Publishing an e-newsletter four times a year

  • Maintaining this web-site - www.friendsofpittville.org

  • E-mailing or writing to Friends to alert and update them on matters of interest

  • Holding occasional events, some of which are open to the public

  • Participating in community events such as Cheltenham Local History Society’s Local History Afternoon

  • Publishing minutes of the Executive Committee meetings and the AGM Minutes

  • Maintain the three notice-boards in the park

  • Initiating links with local schools and organisations

  • Developing walks and talks and other ‘learning’ activities


Fundraising

  • Sell items on e-bay or at auction

  • Run events

  • Recycling schemes, e.g. mobile phone recycling

  • Sell publications such as the Pittville Gates booklet


Run the Friends group

  • Hold an annual general meeting (September/October) open to all

  • Hold Executive Committee meetings every two to three months
