CBC Press Release on Stage I Bid to HLF
"A £4 million bid which could change the look of Pittville Park has been submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund and a copy will be on display from Friday at Cheltenham Reference Library for people to view. If the bid is successful, local people will benefit from a transformed park, with activies for all ages, an enhanced community feel, better access and improved landscaping.
The bid was submitted by Cheltenham Borough Council after wide spread community consultation.
Rosemary Mansbridge, project manager for the council said: ‘’We spent a long time talking to different community groups to find out exactly what they want their local park to offer. The feedback was then incorporated into the bid, which can now be viewed at the main library. We hope our bid is successful as the park is clearly cherished by so many people.’’
The bid, which will shortly be published on the council’s website, contains a vast amount of information about the park and plans to restore, refurbish and enhance facilities for the benefit of all those living in and visiting Cheltenham. Containing five separate folders of information, the bid includes: the history of the park; a Conservation Management Plan and restoration Master Plan; plans to improve access and activities in the park and to increase local and volunteer involvement; and future proposals to manage and maintain the park.
Councillor Steve Jordan, leader for Cheltenham Borough Council said: ‘’A great deal of time and energy has gone into the bid and our thanks goes to members of the public for sharing their views on how they want the park to look. We are also grateful to the Friends of Pittville Park, Pittville Area Residents’ Association and the recently formed St Paul’s Residents’ Association for their support and advice.’’
The project team will know in March 2009 if the bid has been successful"
