Dear Members of the Friends of Pittville,
This is the first edition of our newsletter to let you know a little of what we are doing. The next will be early March.
In the meantime, I will keep posting items of interest on the website on the news page.
Best regards. Ron Pattinson (Hon Secretary, Friends of Pittville)

December 2006

Friends of Pittville have been meeting with the Cheltenham Borough Council on an informal basis for the past three years. The meetings have centred on the preservation and on-going maintenance of Pittville Park. At a public meeting on 20 September 2006, The Friends of Pittville Group was formally constituted and the Executive Committee elected.

The aim of The Friends is to encourage greater involvement of the local people in the restoration, enjoyment and husbandry of Pittville Park and the surrounding Pittville Estate and, in so doing, support Cheltenham Borough Council in pursuing a Heritage Lottery Fund grant towards maintaining and restoring the estate to Joseph Pitt’s original vision. (See the website)

The activities of the Friends of Pittville will be publicised in Village Voice in the Gloucestershire Echo, by leaflet, in the Park and on the Friends of Pittville website, www.friendsofpittville.org.

The Friends of Pittville will liaise closely with the area schools, the University, St Vincent’s Centre, the Pittville Area residents’ Association, Park Watch and other interested parties to seek the widest public awareness of and contribution to current and future deliberations about the Estate’s future. The Borough Council and Council officials are represented on the Executive Committee.

The Friends would like to encourage the local community to play an active role in this bid for a grant and one way everyone can have a voice is to join the Friends group.
